Black Rock Student Materials Pick Up

Black Rock Elementary School
2000 Mountain View Blvd
Erie  Colorado  80516

Dear Parents:

By the school calendar the school year is in its last few weeks. The staff has had a hard time accepting that we can't do all of the fun end of year activities with students that have become traditions for us. We are missing your kids! Thank you again for helping us teach your children in these last weeks. It has truly been a team effort. Teachers will share their plans with parents for online goodbyes in the coming days.

We have made a plan for students/families to pick up their belongings in a way that honors current physical distancing expectations and helps to keep everyone safe. Each grade level has a specific day for material pick up, and the classrooms have specific hours within the window of pick up time. We realize that for parents who have multiple children at Black Rock, it may mean coming to the school more than once... BUT... the teachers would really like to be there to wave to and air hug their students if possible! The only way to do that is to designate grade level times.

On June 8th, we will begin the process of students picking up their personal items, including spring class pictures, artwork, yearbooks (if ordered), etc. Teachers will gather your child's belongings and place them in a paper bag. If you think there are other items in the classroom that might not be in the desk, please let your child's teacher know so she/he can look for them.

This will also be a time for you to return any school or classroom library books and other school items you may have at home. If you are using an iPad that you checked out at the SVVS Resource Center for online learning, you will keep it at home throughout the summer. More information will be sent out in the fall about procedures for returning these iPads. Any items remaining after June 12th will be donated.

  • Write the child's name (large and dark please) on a piece of paper and place it on the front passenger dashboard.
  • Please enter the Kiss-n-Go lane off Forsythia, where the name will be read and staff up ahead will be notified that you are in the line. (Please do not walk or drive bikes in order to maintain appropriate physical distancing and contactless pick up.)
  • Please pull forward as far as you are able. Your child's bag should be waiting for you at the table on the crosswalk in front of the main entrance. If you prefer we place it in your trunk for you, we are happy to do that as well.
  • Families will remain in their vehicles. We ask that you wear a mask and all staff will be wearing one as well.
  • Please return school and classroom library books, or other school items, to the plastic bin that will be provided. (Remember that St. Vrain issued iPads will not be returned until August.)
  • Please stay in the kiss-n-go lane. We will not bring items to parked vehicles in the parking lot.

If you are absolutely unable to come to school during your child's assigned class time, please call the office ahead of time and let them know that another parent will be picking it up for you or that you need to arrange a different time during the week of June 8th.

Lastly, teachers will be taking turns coming into the building to gather student belongings, and to prepare their rooms for summer cleaning beginning May 11th. Teachers will let you know ahead of time as they will not be posting new work or holding WebEx meetings on those days.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the office staff, Mrs. O'Donnell, or Mrs. Dykes. Call the office any weekday between 8:00am and 4:00pm. We are happy to assist you as we bring this school year to a close.

Thank you!  We appreciate your help with the student materials pick up process!
