Black Rock Elementary, we provide engaging and challenging curriculum where all students are actively involved in their learning and motivated to do their best. All students take responsibility to maximize their academic growth as teachers facilitate effective instruction. Our school is a place where everyone is learning and practicing a second language. We are a Gifted & Talented and World Language Focus school.
Grouping Strategies
We use a school cluster grouping model at our school. It takes into account the achievement levels of all students and places them in suitable groupings on an annual basis. This method helps facilitate teachers’ differentiation of curriculum and instruction for all students and increases student achievement. The goal is to limit each class to no more than three levels of achievement (based on the research of Dr. Marcia Gentry).
For math and reading instruction in grades 1-5, students are grouped with teachers who correspond to their grade level based on current performance levels and growth. Instructing students at similar levels with challenging curricula encourages academic gain.
