Due to inclement weather with forecasted extremely cold early morning temperatures, all schools in the St. Vrain Valley School District will be on a weather delay, and school will start 2 hours later than our normal schedule for Tuesday, January 21. When the district remains open, but you believe that weather conditions in your specific area are unsafe or otherwise problematic for transporting your student to school, please feel free to contact your school’s attendance clerk to obtain an excused absence for your student. If weather conditions cause you to keep your student at home, they will be able to make up any missed schoolwork without penalty.

It is time for the Black Rock Elementary Spelling Bee!

The first round of the Spelling Bee will be a written spelling test. Third, fourth, and fifth graders will take the test with their classroom teacher during the week of January 13th – 17th. Kindergarten, first, and second graders who wish to take the pre-test will be given the opportunity to test at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, January 15th. Your child should enter through the front doors at 8:25 AM and will be guided to the testing room in the Blue Pod. All students will be given the same first-round test created with words from the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee Study List. The test will be comprised of words from the attached list for first through eighth grades. Parents and students qualifying for the final round will be notified the week of January 27th. The final round will be a traditional Spelling Bee held after school on Monday, February 10th at 3:45 PM. The winner of our school’s Spelling Bee will go on to the Scripps Colorado State Spelling Bee in the spring.

Half Year Insurance

The half year insurance fee is now available in Infinite Campus. Half year insurance is being offered to current students who did not opt into insurance in Fall 2024. However, the school will need to inspect the iPad first to make sure it is in working condition before offering the insurance. Spring 2025 Insurance: $12.50.

We are thrilled to rollout the improved educator nomination process for the Celebration of Excellence (formerly Tribute to Teachers). Please encourage the parents, staff, and students at your school to nominate educators that demonstrate excellence in their roles. The nomination form will go live on January 13th, and nominations must be submitted by February 5th.

Hello from the BRE Student Council Committee!

Our mission is to make positive impacts in our communities. We’re collecting pop tabs to donate to Ronald McDonald House Charities, a cause of immense value. This project teaches kids about philanthropy and recycling while raising funds for this powerful cause. Ronald McDonald House Charities provides families with temporary housing while their children are hospitalized at no cost to the families.

SAVE THE DATE! The St. Vrain Valley Schools Education Foundation is hosting a College Savings Information Night on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 6:00-7:30 pm at the Innovation Center of St. Vrain Valley Schools.

Parents are invited to learn more about 529 College Savings Plans, the 529 Jump program (for K-3rd grade students), and other state and federal matching programs. Representatives from a variety of financial institutes will be present to answer questions. Dinner, Spanish language interpretation, and childcare will be provided.

St. Vrain Preschool Expands to Five-Day-A-Week Programs
Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, St. Vrain Valley Schools will offer five-day-a-week preschool programs. Families can explore a variety of high-quality preschool options tailored to meet families’ unique needs, including half-day morning and afternoon sessions, with full-day programs available at select locations. Registration for the upcoming school year begins on December 17.
