Staff Appreciation week May 4th-8th
Want to get involved in creating a Wickedly Oz-Some Week for the staff? Here are ways to participate:
Please submit one or many Yellow Bricks to be added to the Road of Appreciation! Teacher appreciation tags were sent home with each student and should be returned by Friday, May 8th. Additional tags and paper Yellow Bricks are available in the front entryway all week.
We’re still looking for volunteers to provide sweets for the staff. Any store-bought drinks or desserts can be dropped off at the office to treat them like the amazing people they are!

2026-2027 Critical Classroom Placement Info
Dear Black Rock Families,
It is that time of year when we create homerooms for the next school year.
Please complete this form ONLY if you have critical information regarding your child, particularly extreme concerns that have impacted their educational experience. If you do not have concerns to share, no form is required.
This form is designed to gather important information that may impact your child’s educational experience. At Black Rock, we are committed to creating safe, supportive classrooms where all students can thrive. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee teacher requests. However, if there is relevant historical information you would like to share, please include it on this form. 2026-2027
Lastly, please let us know if you are NOT planning on attending Black Rock Elementary during the 2026-2027 School Year.
Please complete this form by Tuesday, May 5, 2026 by 3:00PM. Staff will create class lists during the May 6 Late Start. Forms received after May 5th will not be included in classroom determination. Please keep in mind class lists are very thoughtfully put together by the current grade level cohort for the next grade level. One change could possibly cause a domino effect.
Our approach includes:
- Positive Communities: Building emotionally and physically safe learning environments
- Staff knowledge and Observations
- Teachers have a strong understanding of all students’ needs, including those with IEPs, 504 plans, health plans, behavior plans, ALPs, and multilingual learners.
- High Achievement and Growth: Using clustering, balancing needs and differentiation, especially in grades 2-5
- New Beginnings: Supporting each child with a fresh start each school year
Thank you for your partnership in supporting our school community.
Sincerely,
Black Rock Staff
Bookworm Reading Challenge Update
We did it! Black Rock students and staff read a combined total of 10,319 books in the month of April, surpassing our 10,000 goal. Our bookworm has nearly “wormed” its way around the inside hall of the entire school!
To celebrate this special accomplishment, we are having a school-wide PINK and GREEN (or PJs) and Popcorn Day on Thursday, May 7th! Students will be provided with a Kirkland brand snack bag of popcorn (ingredients: popcorn, coconut oil and sea salt). Please let your homeroom teacher know if your child has an allergy to one or more of these ingredients or if you would prefer your child not be provided popcorn.
Congratulations to all our readers!
