It is time to start getting ready for the Black Rock Elementary Spelling Bee! The first round of the Spelling Bee will be a written spelling test. Second, third, fourth, and fifth graders will take the test with their classroom teacher during the weeks of January 8th – 19th. Kindergarten and first-grade students who wish to take the pre-test will be given the opportunity to test at 8:45, Monday, January 22nd, in Mrs. Blick’s portable. All students will be given the same first-round test created with words from the Scripps National Spelling Bee 2023-2024 Study List. The test will consist of words from the attached list of words for first through eighth grades. The final round will be a traditional Spelling Bee held after school on Monday, February 12th. The winner of our school’s Spelling Bee will go on to the Scripps Colorado State Spelling Bee in March.

Design challenge supplies and volunteers needed — Each week students come to design challenges to solve a problem connected to their classroom learning. They go through the design thinking process where they build empathy on the topic, define the problem, ideate solutions, create a prototype, and reflect/give feedback to each other. When they build their prototype we like to use recyclable items. We are in need of some items for upcoming builds!

Toilet paper/paper towel rolls
Plastic grocery bags
Plastic containers
Small cardboard boxes (shoe box size)

Standard Response Protocol

Thank you for being such an important part of our community and providing a strong foundation for student success at Black Rock. In St. Vrain Valley Schools, student safety has always been a priority and we have taken many measures to ensure the highest levels of security and preparedness in our schools.

One area that St. Varin has always been extremely proactive with is our approach to practicing our emergency responses with students through drills and other safety measures. Attached is a parent handout that provides information on the Standard Response Protocol (SRP).

Erie Elite Basketball Registration — Erie Elite Basketball registration for 3rd-8th graders is now open.

Erie Tiger Baseball Winter Break Youth Camp for 8-11 year olds and 12-14 year olds. Registration opens November 13th. Camp is from January 3rd through 5th, 2024.
